Acupuncture and herbs are both an integral part of TCM, which has been proven to be a very safe and effective health care modality in Australia.
National Registration was introduced Australia-wide for Chinese Medicine Practitioners in 2012. This provides strong regulation of the industry and ensures a high standard of care is delivered to the public. Both Mark and Elisabeth are registered through the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia, which comes under the umbrella of AHPRA (Australian Health Practitioner Regulatory Agency).
There are many conditions Acupuncture can be used for, including infertility, women’s health issues, headaches, digestive problems, tiredness, anxiety, sleep problems, skin disorders and spinal, leg and arm pain.
Elisabeth & Mark are our qualified acupuncture practitioners.
Elisabeth Staunton is currently only practicing at Ferguson Street Chiropractic & Natural Therapies. She is a registered Doctor of Chinese Medicine having graduated from VU with a Bachelor of Health Sciences in Chinese Medicine – Acupuncture and Herbs (Hons).
She is registered with AACMA and AHPRA.
Having a keen interest in Eastern philosophy and it’s holistic view of healthcare, Elisabeth studied Shiatsu and completed Reiki levels I and II, before commencing her Chinese Medicine degree.
As part of her Chinese medicine training, Elisabeth completed her internship at Shuguang Teaching Hospital in Shanghai, China, completing clinical hours in the Internal medicine, Acupuncture, Gynaecology and Oncology departments. There she saw how the integration of Western medicine and Chinese Medicine worked extremely well. It was inspiring to see Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine being used as a key part of a patient’s treatment plan for recovery.
After graduating, Elisabeth spent time volunteering for community acupuncture programs including a holistic drug withdrawal facility, whilst establishing her own professional practice. She joined Yarraville Health Group in 2009, first as a locum and then as part of the permanent team in 2011.
She also practices in another multi- disciplinary clinic in Williamstown.
Elisabeth consults on a wide range of conditions in her practice, including muscular skeletal injury, chronic pain, migraines, fertility issues, skin disorders, digestive issues and anxiety. She offers IVF support and treats many women through pregnancy and in preparation for labour.
Traditional Chinese Medicine techniques are used both in diagnosis and treatment.
In addition to Acupuncture, Elisabeth offers Moxibustion, Cupping, Gua Sha, Acupressure, and Chinese Herbal Medicine. She places a strong focus on diet and lifestyle advice (Yang Sheng) in her treatments and advises clients on self care techniques that they can utilise at home.
Acupuncture can be very useful in conjunction with other health care modalities.
Elisabeth often works in consultation with our Naturopath Rowenna Halge in areas of Women’s health and fertility and to address imbalances that may lead to hormonal and energy issues.
Elisabeth has always loved the Chinese medicine philosophy and how it sees everything as interconnected. It is a special interest of Elisabeth’s to help identify the underlying causes of an illness whether it’s physical, emotional or environmental.
Elisabeth looks forward to meeting you and discussing your health care needs.
